Joaquin M. Espinosa, Ph.D., is a Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and the Associate Director for Science at the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina and later trained at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California. In 2009 he was appointed as an Early Career Scientist of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research team investigates mechanisms of gene expression control, with a focus on cancer biology and Down Syndrome. When not in the lab or classroom, he is probably rock climbing somewhere in the mountains around Boulder searching for fresh perspectives on how to defeat cancer and eradicate the ill effects of trisomy 21.
